At a December 12 ceremony, Sweden Supervisor Nat O. Lester, III and members of VFW Post 2890 dedicated the new flagpole at the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center. The flagpole was purchased by Post 2890 and installed by the Sweden Highway Department. The veteran’s group also purchased a plaque dedicating the flagpole to all veterans.

VFW Post 2890 has purchased and donated several flagpoles during the past five years, including one at the Sweden Town Park, according to Post Commander Ray Catlin.

“We are very thankful that when our local veterans retired from military service, they didn’t stop giving back to their community,” said Supervisor Lester. “They award scholarships to our students, they provide markers in our cemeteries, they help community members in need and today, they provided a flagpole and flag for the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center. I’d like to thank the members of VFW Post 2890 for their past service to our country and for their continuing service to our community.”

Other members of VFW Post 2890 who attended the ceremony at the community center in addition to Commander Catlin were Peter Barber, Charlie Deacon, Tom Naporski, Tom Kuczmynda and Ed Perrine.
