Welcome to Town of Sweden

The Town of Sweden does not discriminate on the bases of handicapped status in the admission of access to, or treatment or employment for any facility owned by the Town of Sweden. The Town of Sweden is in compliance with the nondiscrimination requirements contained in the Department of Housing and Urban Development's (UD) regulations implementing Section 504 (24 CFR Part 8, dated June 2, 1988).

Governance

The Town of Sweden is governed by a five-member Town Council. The Supervisor serves as the presiding officer and chief fiscal officer. Board members are elected to four-year terms; except for the Supervisor, who is elected to a two-year term.

The Sweden Town Board typically meets on four Tuesdays per month: the second and fourth are regular meetings; the first and third are workshops. The Board goes to a reduced schedule in the summer months; other meetings may be added or cancelled as warranted. During regular Town Board meetings, action is taken by motion or resolution.

Some typical activities of the Town Board include: drafting and adopting legislation which becomes part of the Sweden Town Code; developing and adopting fiscal, personnel and operational policies; adopting a budget and approving all expenditures; hiring all employees and setting wages; appointing members to support boards; hearing and acting on rezoning applications; and overseeing the general operations of the Town.
