Justice Court
The Sweden Justice Court has jurisdiction over cases pertaining to traffic violations, criminal misdemeanors & violations, preliminary hearings for felonies, and Civil / Small Claims filed for damages up to $3,000.
Court Dates & Times
First, Third and 5th Wednesday( if one falls within that month) of the month for Arraignments and Dispositions with the Assistant District Attorney and the Monroe County Public Defender present.
The 1st Wednesday court starts at 9:00am, the 3rd Wednesday court starts at 1:00pm, the 5th Wednesday court starts at 1:00pm. If a holiday falls on one of those Wednesdays, the dates will change for that month, please contact the Court. While court is in session, the court office is closed until court is concluded and any phone messages/emails will be returned as soon as possible.
If you are represented by an Attorney/Public Defender, please contact your Attorney in regards to any requests for adjournments.
IMPORTANT CHANGE IN NEW YORK LAW - Beginning June 29th,2021, you can pay fines, fees and surcharges for Vehicle and traffic cases on an installment payment plan with no extra charges or interest.
* Ask the Judge about payment plans if you are sentenced for a vehicle and traffic charge.
*Minimum payment of $25 per month , or just pay in full.
*Financial disclosure form may be required.

Small Claims/Civil Court
Small Claims Court handles claims up to $3,000. The cost is $10.00 for claims up to $1,000.00; $15.00 for claims from 1001.00 to $3,000.00. Small Claims summonses are mailed to defendant by certified mail. Dates for court appearance will be given within 20-40 days. Paperwork and payment for filing a small claims action can be processed during court office hours.
Small Claims/Civil court dates are held every Tuesday. Times vary each week, please call the Court office for specific times.

Please be advised that the Court cannot give legal advice, if you wish to obtain an Attorney you may do so.
Payments
Payments accepted at the Court are Cash, Money orders, certified bank checks (no personal checks) and Credit cards – MasterCard and Visa accepted. Please note a Service Fee of 2.99% of the payment amount will be assessed on all Credit Card Payments. The Court does not accept payments over the phone.
Town Court is held in the Sweden Town Hall located at 18 State Street, Brockport, New York. State Street is east of Main Street (Route 19) in the Village of Brockport.
Parking is available in the back lot. Please use double doors located in the back of the building or use the front entrance.
Traveling on Route 31 (Brockport Spencerport Road from the east / Fourth Section Road from the west), turn north on Route 19. Proceed to the fourth traffic light (The Strand Movie Theatre is on the corner) and turn right onto State Street. The Town Hall is located on the south side of the street.
From Route 104 (Ridge Road West), turn south on Route 19. Proceed over the canal bridge to the first traffic light (The Strand Movie Theatre is on the corner) and turn left onto State Street. The Town Hall is located on the south side of the street.
If you would like to make a plea on your traffic ticket and do not have your original ticket you may do so by completing the plea form attached here. Once you have filled out your plea you may send it to the Court by mail, fax, email or in person.
If you do not know what the charge is, please call the court to verify the information before completing the form.
